After a cool and mild spring, summer has definitely arrived along the Emerald Coast. With temperatures expected in the mid- to high eighties today and the heat index topping a hundred, you may be looking for some ways to beat the heat. Here are some suggestions: Air Conditioning is your best friend, especially during the heat of the mid-day. If you are Tired of being cooped up in your vacation home or condominium, you’ll find plenty of air conditioning at the movies, the bowling alley, or shopping malls. Save your work out for the early morning/or after dinner, when temperatures are cooler.  Pack a breakfast picnic for the beach and hit the beach early. Head home for lunch and an afternoon rest.  The Europeans call it a siesta, so you know it’s very posh. Drink plenty of cool, non-alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated. Freeze some fresh fruit (berries, lemons, and limes are good choices) or herbs, like basil, and add these festive ice cubes to your drink for a little extra flavor. You can make your own gourmet popsicles using freshly squeezed juice or freeze some grapes, peaches, or watermelon for a cool, and hydrating, snack. Local safety officials are predicting big waves for the middle of the week. If the waves are too rough, or the water is closed to swimmers because of riptides, you can still have plenty of water fun at some of the local playgrounds and fountains. Don’t forget about Big Kahuna’s in Destin or Shipwreck Island in Panama City Beach. You Might Also Like: Don't Forget These Five Items In Your Family Beach Bag!
