According to media reports, retirees are opting for second vacation and rental homes in record numbers. For a number of years, The Emerald Coast has played to host to "Snowbirds" from the Midwest, but the variety of license plates seen from October-March is beginning to include tags from both the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic. When choosing a "snow bird" roost, retirees are looking for a pleasant climate, a variety of housing options, and a community of other retired people. Both the Destin and South Walton Snow Bird Clubs provide retirees with plenty of opportunities to connect and engage with other seniors throughout their stay. The Destin Snow Bird Clubs meets every Tuesday at the Destin Community Center for their general meeting.  The club hosts a number of weekly events, including bowling, golfing, knitting, and bridge, as well as special events and trips. They keep their website updated regularly, so you can log on and find the most updated information. The South Walton Snowbirds also meet regularly at the Destin United Methodist Church. The club sponsors a number of activities, from line-dancing and golf outings to exercise classes and card games. Like the Destin Club, the South Walton Snow Bird Club also sponsors a number of special events, including trips to Biloxi. If you are a retiree looking to connect with others and have some fun this winter, be sure to explore the area's active and dynamic Snow Bird clubs.
