With most of the nation is caught in the "Polar Vortex", an extreme polar low pressure system that has become disturbed, sending frigid temperatures well into the deep south, many Emerald Coast visitors are looking for ways to stay warm. With temperatures hovering around 20 degrees and the wind chill making it feel significantly colder, locals and visitors will need to bundle up for the next few days. According to both weather and fashion experts, layering is the key to staying warm as the temperature drops. Your first layer should be a thin whisking layer, like silk, polyester, or nylon, which will keep moisture away from your skin. Fleece, wool, or cashmere is a great option for a second layer. Finally, finish with a water and weather resistant outer layer, like a jacket made of Gortex. Don't forget about your extremities. Wool socks, gloves, hats, and scarves can make a big difference and you'll need to put your flip-flops away in favor of some boots until the weekend. If you travelled to the Emerald Coast and were surprised by the cold temperatures, be sure to visit the newly opened Columbia Outlet in Silver Sands for cold-weather clothes and accessories.
