Destin celebrates its history and heritage every October during the annual Fishing Rodeo. One of the Southeast’s premiere events, The Fishing Rodeo draws thousands of anglers to the Emerald Green Waters of the Gulf of Mexico for a chance at cash, prizes, and bragging rights. For more than 35 years, the un-official kickoff to Destin’s signature event has been the Destin Seafood Festival. Traditionally held during the first week in October, The Destin Seafood Festival is three days of food, music, and lots of fun. Beginning Friday evening, there will be six stages set up for live music. Many local and regional favorites will be performing everything from classic rock and disco to country and bluegrass. Since the Destin Seafood Festival runs more than a mile and a half along the Harbor Boardwalk, you can find live entertainment from HarborWalk Village all the way to the Boathouse. This family-friendly event also has three separate and dedicated kids’ areas. The Kids’ Zone at Heron Harbor, with rock walls and climbing activities for older kids, and a magic show by Captain Dave the Pirate. The Kids’ Zone at East Pass Marina has pony rides, petting zoos, and bounce houses designed for preschoolers and toddlers.  The HarborWalk Village Kids’ Zone takes advantage of the rock wall and zip line, and adds hamster balls for more adrenaline-fueled fun. In addition to all the restaurants located along the Harbor, a number of local favorites will be represented during the festival. Be sure to stop by their booths so you can enjoy the freshest local seafood. Admission to the festival is free, and donations are accepted. There are a limited number of VIP passes available for purchase which gives you access to some upgrades and amenities, like the VIP refreshment tent and priority seating. The Destin Seafood Festival is a tradition that’s not to be missed.
